
The 46th Session of Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR)opened in Nanjing on May 5, 2014.
There are a total of 15 agenda items, including over 600 draft Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for diquat and other 42 pesticides in foods and feeds; guidance on performance criteria specific for methods of analysis for determination of pesticide residues and guidance to facilitate the establishment of maximum residue limits for pesticides for specialty crops; revision of the Risk Analysis Principles applied by the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues and revision of the classification of foods and animal feeds; the establishment of Codex Priority Lists of Pesticides, and so forth.
It is the 8th session held by China as the CCPR host government. At previous meetings, an array of Codex standards were developed and revised, and wide consensus was reached, greatly facilitating global food safety and international trade.
It is believed that this Session will also contribute to international MRLs setting and world food safety,and build up China's food safety standard system and pesticide management capacity.
Over 300 delegates attended the Session, representing 62 member countries, 1 member organization (the EU) and 10 international organizations .
The Chinese delegation is composed of experts from Ministry of Agriculture, National Health and Family Planning Commission, Ministry of Commerce, China Food and Drug Administration, State Administration of Grain, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the Hong Kong SAR, and so on.
Several penal discussions will be held during the Session, including bilateral and multi-lateral consultations on methods of analysis for determination of pesticide residues, and so on.
